Veterinary Technician Student Internships
The Veterinary Technician program at the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) is a two-year associate degree program in applied science conducted under the direction of licensed veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians as well as instructors in the General Studies area.
It emphasizes hands-on animal skills and the technical information necessary to perform certain duties under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Internship (work experience) is a very important phase of practical training for students enrolled in the program. It generally follows the second semester of class work in the college summer recess and is conducted during a period of eight weeks (or 320 hours).
The Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center offers internships to MATC students to enhance the student’s educational experience and expose them to an emergency medicine environment.
WVRC offers training and experience in a state-of-the-art modern facility utilizing digital imaging, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy and CT.
Areas that will be covered include, but are not limited to:
Students will be under the direct supervision of certified veterinary technicians and licensed veterinarians.
Veterinary Technician Student Clinical Rotations
The Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center offers clinical rotations for veterinary technician students who want more practical, hands-on exposure after completion of their coursework.
Areas that will be covered include, but are not limited to:
Students will be under the direct supervision of certified veterinary technicians and licensed veterinarians.
Veterinary Student Externship Program
The 4th year curriculum at UWM’s School of Veterinary Medicine includes 48-weeks of clinical instruction which begins in mid-May.
Each 4th year student designs his/her 4th year schedule to meet their personal career goals. The student selects 1 of 5 career track options. Each career option includes specific required rotations taken in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and significant time for electives that meet the individual needs and goals of the student.
Students may elect to spend extensive time in other instructional settings in the form of an externship that contribute to their career goals.
The Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center offers 4th year veterinary students two-week externships in the emergency/critical care department.
Students will have a hands-on experience dealing with a varied and interesting caseload in a fast-paced, state-of-the-art facility.

Clinical Internship for Veterinarians
The Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center is pleased to announce openings for a Non-Traditional Internship Program beginning July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.
With the guidance of our experienced staff, the intern will develop advanced skills in emergency medicine, emergency surgery, critical care, managing multiple and diverse cases, and making good decisions in a fast-paced environment. You will also have access to a full diagnostic laboratory with rapid turn-around times and digital radiology to help make those decisions.
